Hey y'all,
It's been a while since I posted last so I thought I give you all an update on what med school life is like. We start out with 10 weeks of Human Anatomy which is supposed to be the hardest class of the first year. I got to cut open the cadaver on day one which was pretty exciting. Luckily, I've been able to maintain a reasonable life outside of studying various tiny and sometimes seemingly meaningless structures in the body. I keep busy, but still have time to play basketball and go out once a week (usually Fridays).
The administration here at St. Louis University is a little different than the one we all know and love from ND. As an example I'd like to tell you an anectdote which actually happened to me. Picture this: it's your first day of orientation and all of the official activities are over. Some of the second year students have organized an unofficial gathering at local park. You're not sure what to expect but decide to go and check it out, just meet and get to know people. Half an hour after you arrive you're next in line for a keg of Bud lite, procured by the second years, when all of a sudden the Dean for Student Affairs walks up to you. At first you don't notice the red solo cup in his hand and are a little worried about what might happen if he realizes you were about to start pumping the tap to enjoy a few adult beverages. You remember the lecture he had just given about how he and his office are here to help the students with anything. "Hello", he says with a smile on his face. "I'm going to use my seniority and cut you in line". You look back at him in surprise. "Sure, go right ahead, Dr. S". You quickly realize that the tap needs pumping, and quickly, or Dr. S is going to have a very foamy Bud Lite. Being the kind and generous soul that you are, you step up and pump the tap. It's only upon further reflection later that night that you realize what just happened. You just pumped the tap on a keg at a party for a member of the School Administration. You soon realize that this med school thing might not be so bad after all.
Peace and love to you all,
Andy
