It's my first time...

Well isn't this nifty. I always thought about starting a blog, but I guess this means I don't have to. Plus, I finally have a platform for my radical antifeminist views. But I digress.

Just to fill everyone in, I am currently at the University of Texas getting a Masters degree in structural engineering. I have found that this is a surprisingly good icebreaker at bars; the ladies love it when I discuss how impressive my erections are. Some highlights of my life since graduation:
  • I worked for a construction company in Tucson all summer. I learned a lot, but there were days where I must have sweat a couple of gallons. Those of you who know my love of stuff being poured into other stuff know how jacked up I was all summer. One morning before work, I was threatened with physical harm by my roommate for having my clock radio on too loud. But that same day, the Girls Gone Wild bus drove through our work zone, and all was right in the world.
  • I visited Meghan O'D in San Diego, at which point my air conditioning broke and I had to drive back across the fucking desert in July with the windows down. But I did get to see Salvation Mountain. It's basically a big adobe hill in the middle of the desert covered in paint and bible verses. The creator, Leonard Knight, has been at it for 25 years. He's really old but somehow survives living in a trailer with no electricity or running water. Talking with him, he comes off as a little crazy, but so full of faith that you can't help feeling better about the world when you leave.
  • In a span of three weeks this fall, I drove from Austin to Minneapolis and back, then from Austin to South Bend and back. For an amateur, that would be a lot of ass time in the car. But I am not an amateur.
  • I got hammered at our tailgate for the WSU game in San Antonio. Nate wanted to make a beer run late that afternoon, so I let him borrow my car. I then proceeded to pass out. Next thing I know, someone is holding a phone to my ear, and Nate is on the other end telling me my car is smoking; apparently he was a little too enthusiastic with the clutch. Long story short, don't ever ask to borrow my car, no matter how well you think you can drive a stick.
  • The structural engineers had an end-of-the-year party in December, where I got wasted on white Russians and eventually got kicked out of a bar downtown. I'm not sure what I did to get kicked out, but the next thing I remembered I was staggering around the capital grounds trying to find a taxi. Where is Nick's Patio when you need it?
  • A couple weeks ago, Devin and I found what I think is the next best thing to The Backer down here. It's called TC's Lounge, and it is located in what can lovingly be described as the ghetto. It's BYO wine and liquor, but they won't let you bring in beer because they sell it at the bar (but you can just pound a few in the parking lot and they won't stop you). There is always a live blues band, and the crowd is a very diverse cross-section of society, from white debutante-looking girls to crazy-looking black dudes to trustafarians. You don't get a free drink with cover, but the experience as a whole makes up for that.
So this post should hold me over for several more months. If anyone is ever in Austin and needs a place to crash, I can recommend a good motel.
